• Open-ended sentences or phrases provided to someone in an effort to elicit language.
  • It is often helpful to provide some kind of visual support to prompt the person to respond. For example: I could say to Joe, “Your name is….?” I could show Joe a photo of himself, or a written example of his name and he could respond, “Joe!”
  • It is often helpful in individuals with Fragile X Syndrome to wait 8 seconds for a verbal response.
