Open-ended sentences or phrases provided to someone in an effort to elicit language.
It is often helpful to provide some kind of visual support to prompt the person to respond. For example: I could say to Joe, “Your name is….?” I could show Joe a photo of himself, or a written example of his name and he could respond, “Joe!”
It is often helpful in individuals with Fragile X Syndrome to wait 8 seconds for a verbal response.
